Union to Help Chinese Workers on 457 Visas
Wednesday 16 January 2008

Chinese construction employees working on 457 visas have sought the assistance of the Construction Union. These workers have been underpaid or not paid at all since October.

This example of exploitation and abuse of workers under the 457 visa scheme illustrates the perilous industrial relations environment created by the Howard Government.

Bill Noonan, Branch Secretary said “This example of abuse of 457 visas by an employer is not isolated.  There are companies exploiting overseas workers in other industries, including transport.”

“I would encourage any TWU member to report to the Union any similar instances of exploitation in the transport industry,” said Mr. Noonan.

If you have any question regarding 457 visas please call the Union on 1300 727 614.
