Railway Crossing Safety WorkshopBill Noonan, Branch Secretary, recently attended a National Workshop on Safer Road User Behaviour at level Crossings.
The focus of the workshop was to review the interaction between drivers and pedestrians and railway crossings, and measures to improve safety.
Bill Noonan said, “The forum provided stakeholders from a variety of industries and backgrounds to discuss safety measures that would make railway crossings safer.”
In October 2007 the Union provided the Victorian Government with a written submission in response to an inquiry into Improving Safety at Level Crossings.
In this submission, the Union stressed the need for a comprehensive analysis of level crossings on the Victorian rail network to determine priorities for infrastructure upgrades, better signage and warning systems, the development of communication between trucks and trains, a targeted education campaign and the need for trains to be more visible.
