Truckies Code of Conduct Launch
Tuesday 18 March 2008
Victorian Roads and Ports Minister Tim Pallas launched a new code of conduct for truck drivers at the Transport Workers Union office on Tuesday, March 18th at noon.

The new code, which commits truckies to avoid drugs and drive in a safe, professional manner, has been developed over the last 12 months by the TWU and the Victorian Transport Association with the co-operation of the Transport Industry Safety Group.

A related code of conduct for transport companies was also launched by the Minister.

TWU Vic/Tas Branch Secretary Bill Noonan said today that the new codes of conduct signaled a strong commitment by drivers and companies to a responsible approach by an industry that is crucial to Victoria’s economic health.

“Truck drivers and the road transport industry are sometimes portrayed by the media in an unflattering light,” said Mr. Noonan. “However, the great majority take their responsibilities seriously while performing important work, often under a lot of pressure.”
