The Hon. John Brumby launches the TWU's Stalwarts Book
Wednesday 10 September 2008

The TWU recently embarked on an ambitious project to capture the stories of some of its longest serving Union members. The book, called Stalwarts, was launched at Queens Hall in Parliament House at 6.30pm on Tuesday 9 September 2008, by the Premier, the Hon. John Brumby.

Bill Noonan, TWU Branch Secretary, said “The Stalwarts Book serves to acknowledge the strong history and proud tradition of workers in the transport industry and members of the Victorian/Tasmanian Branch of the TWU.”

“Many books have been written about the transport industry, however, not much has ever been written about the workers who are the life-blood of the industry. These are the hard working, no-nonsense family people who deliver goods and services to the community,” said Mr. Noonan.

The Stalwarts Book is dedicated to all TWU members. Those featured in the Book have clocked up to 30-40 years service in the transport industry, along with loyal membership of the Union.

Twenty three stalwarts were chosen to have their stories depicted in the Book, including the Branch Secretary, Bill Noonan, who has been a member of the TWU since 1964.
