Bill Noonan is an ambassador for men's health
Bill Noonan was recently appointed an ambassador for the National Men’s Health Policy.
Bill Noonan OAM is the Branch Secretary of the Transport Workers Union (Victorian/Tasmanian Branch) and is the Vice President of the Union.
Mr. Noonan said that he was pleased to be asked to be an ambassador and was committed to spreading the word regarding men’s health throughout the community.
“The Union’s membership is 97% male, so this policy fits in well with what the Union has been doing with its Healthbreak program. The Healthbreak program originally focused on the detection of sleep disorders and fatigue, however, it now deals with other important men’s health issues, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, depression, anxiety and skin cancer,” said Mr. Noonan.
Bill Noonan is a Director of the Institute for Breathing and Sleep at the Austin Hospital, the health organisation involved in the Healthbreak screening of 15,000 transport workers between 2003 and 2005.
“The TWU has been involved in worker health since the union’s inception in 1938. We have worked closely with organisations such as Mensline and Beyond Blue to develop programs addressing stress and depression, and have engaged the services of Champion Boxer Sam Soliman to be an ambassador for the Healthbreak program in workplaces,” said Mr. Noonan.
Mr. Noonan said that the Union would be working closely with the Federal Government to ensure that the national men’s health policy, together with its Healthbreak Program, achieves its objective of improved health outcomes for Australian men.
