Transport and Roads fare well in State BudgetThe Transport Workers Union welcomes the greatly increased expenditure on transport infrastructure in today’s Victorian State Budget.
TWU Vic/Tas Branch Secretary, Bill Noonan, said that he was pleased that the Brumby Government is continuing to fund the sort of improvements to Victoria’s road network that is necessary to meet continued growth and promote road safety.
“The $44.4 million commitment to the Nagambie Bypass is especially welcome as the TWU has been in the forefront of the long fight for the full duplication and upgrade of the Goulburn Valley Highway,” he said. “It is also heartening to see extensive works programmed for the Western Highway, including the much-needed Nhill Trailer Exchange.”
Mr. Noonan said that he was also encouraged to see the extension of the SmartBus program and plans to improve bus services in the Geelong area.
“The investigation of possible grade separation projects in Hoddle street will also be welcomed by commercial vehicle drivers and private motorists alike,” he said.
