Keep Melbourne Moving Initiative

The Victorian Government’s plan aimed at Keeping Melbourne Moving comes out of consultation with community and industry leaders at the Premier’s Congestion Roundtable held in early 2008. Funding of $112.7 million over 4 years has  been allocated to initiatives that focus on relieving peak period congestion within a 10-kilometre radius around the CBD.

As part of the Keep Melbourne Moving initiative, the Brumby Government has announced changes to the afternoon clearway times. The Victorian Government believes that the new planned standardised afternoon clearway times will improve traffic flow on key arterial roads while allowing for more parking opportunities near local businesses.

Under the Victorian Government PM clearway arrangements:
  • All PM clearways that currently start at 4pm or later, will start at 4pm. At intersections with traffic lights PM clearways will commence from 3pm and extend for approximately 100 metres on either side of the intersection;
  • Existing clearways that start earlier than 4pm will all change to start at 3pm along the full length of the road; and
  • All PM clearways will end at 7pm.
The AM extended clearway hours will continue to run from 6:30am to 10:00am.

The following map shows the areas affected in a 10 kilometre radius from the city.
