New road rules took effect 9 November 2009New road rules contained in the Road Rules and Road Safety (Drivers) Regulations 2009 will affect all drivers on Victorian roads. These changes come after the Brumby Labor Government made a comprehensive assessment of the road rules. An area significant of reform will be regarding the use of new technologies, such as navigation devices and multi-purpose mobile phones.
The new rules will require all phones and navigation devices to be in appropriate holders and cradles in the vehicle. The Victorian Government has made it clear that road users flouting the new roads rules will face penalties such as fines and demerit points.
The new laws came into effect on 9 November 2009.
