Road and transport infrastructure in Tasmania
Tuesday 30 June 2009

The Tasmanian Minister for Infrastructure, Graeme Sturges MP, has pledged to create an integrated, efficient and safe transport system delivering sustainable economic growth and resilient regional communities.  The transport system will need to cater for more freight and passenger movements into the future.  This will require the Tasmanian Government to make strategic decisions about investments in road, rail, and port infrastructure.

On 25 June 2009 the Graeme Sturges MP announced that the Tasmania’s 10 year State Infrastructure Strategy would be finalised this year.  The Minister announced that the strategy will be developed in a 1-3 year, 3-5 year and 5-10 year strategic plan.  The common objectives of the plan will include improved efficiency, safety, accessibility and productivity for the Tasmanian community and industry.

The Minister for Infrastructure, Graeme Sturges MP,  announced on 5 July 2009 that the State Government was seeking comment on a draft plan setting out the strategic framework for planning and investing in Southern Tasmania’s regional transport system over the next 20 years.  The Transport Plan links with 10 year State Infrastructure Strategy.  Copies of the plan are available www.stca.tas.gov.au and comments can be emailed to southernplan@dier.tas.gov.au.
