Footy Greats Bike Ride
Friday 16 October 2009

The Union recently sponsored three of AFL’s greatest names took to the road in this month for charity.

The legendary Ron Barassi, Peter ‘Crackers’ Keenan and Wayne Schimmelbusch cycled along the Great Ocean Road in country Victoria to raise money for St Mary’s House of Welcome in Fitzroy and DOXA.

The trio started their ride at Port Fairy on November 9 and continued along the Great Ocean Road until reaching their destination of Geelong on November 13.

As they made their way through the picturesque surroundings, they stopped to talk to young people at schools and meet and greet other sports people.

Barassi, Keenan and Schimmelbusch have an appreciation of road cycling, after following the sport’s premier event, the Tour de France, in 2007.
