Sam Soliman wins the World Boxing Foundation Middleweight TitleOn the 13th of March Sam “King” Soliman beat Shannon McMahon by technical knock-out in round 11 of 12 to win the World Boxing Foundation Middleweight title.
The fight was held at Racecourse Reception Centre, Moonee Valley, Victoria, Australia. The fight referees were Malcolm Bulner, Ignatius Missailidis 100-87, Chris Anderson 99-88 andSamantha Bulner 100-87.
The fight went something like this:
Round 8 - McMahon down from body punch & cut to eye by punch
Round 9 - McMahon sat down for 8-count
Round 10 - McMahon down
Round 11 - McMahon sat down again for 8-count. Referee stopped the fight @ 2:20
Sam is the first Melbourne boy to win a world title since Barry Michael beat Lester Ellis in their 1985 epic.
Sam Soliman said "It is a dream come true to win a world title in my home town. I want Melbourne to be the home of boxing as it was in the 1980s. I am sitting back and smelling the roses now as it has finally sunk in that I am a world champion and I couldn't have been able to do it without the support of the TWU."
Sam acknowledged the TWU by wearing the TWU cap into the ring, and acknowledging the TWU in his victory speech. Sam's management are in negotiations for a defence of the title in Melbourne late in May against the American number two in the world.
