Company receives record fines over truck driver death

A company and its director have been charged, convicted and fined $870,000 over the death of a 21 year old truck driver who was killed after being ordered to drive a truck with defective brakes. This is the first prosecution in Victoria of a company for reckless endangerment.

The truck driver had received no instruction in operating a heavy vehicle and the truck could not be controlled down a slope.

The company director was fined $120,000 and the company $750,000.
