Q. Do I have to be covered by an award to join the TWU?

A. No way! The TWU has decades of experience representing owner-drivers.


Q. Can my employer discriminate against me if I join the Union?

A. Discrimination against Union members is unacceptable and unlawful.


Q. Do you only represent truck drivers?

A. We also represent bus and taxi drivers, airport workers, couriers (even bicycle couriers), carpark attendants, gas industry workers, warehouse staff … the list goes on.


Q. Is TWU membership tax deductible?

A. It certainly is.


Q. Do I have to call in an Organiser if I have a problem on the job?

A. Most issues are sorted out on the spot by well trained Delegates or Occupational Health and Safety Representatives.


Q. What rights do I have as a Union member?

A. You elect the Branch Committee of Management and most full-time Officials … you also elect your own Delegates and Occupational Health and Safety Representatives. In addition, you will elect the workplace committee that negotiates Enterprise Agreements with your employer.


Q. What if I want to get actively involved in my workplace?

A. You’ll be warmly welcomed and we’ll ensure that you get appropriate training in whatever area you want to tackle.
