Careers in TransportThe combination of historically low unemployment and an ageing population is leading to emerging skills and labour shortages in Australia.
The Transport Workers Union is acutely aware of the skill shortages in the transport industry, especially knowing that the transport industry is constantly growing.
The Victorian Government is aware of the problems that companies are facing in finding suitable employees to fill the gaps in the transport industry, therefore have introduced Workplace Participation Partnership for the Transport Industry.
The Workplace Participation Partnerships are addressing skills and labour shortages locally, by assisting job seekers into jobs in industries with high demand.
Workforce Participation Partnerships will:
• Place jobseekers into ongoing, sustainable employment;
• Assist employers to meet their labour and skill needs;
• Forge stronger links between service agencies and employers to identify sustainable job opportunities;
• Provide case management services to targeted jobseekers; and
• Optimize the use of existing resources, programs and infrastructure.
The Transport Workers Union has taken the role of lead agent along with 5 other training providers that will help at least 60 participants to gain employment in the transport industry by December 2007.
The other training providers are:
